Edinburgh Castle is a huge fort, built by David I, an extinct volcano is the capital of Scotland. Originally built in 1130 is the Castle over 800 years of history of Scotland and is a World Heritage site. St Margaret's Chapel was built in 1130 and shows the oldest building in Edinburgh. Edinburgh Castle was the seat of kings and queens of Scotland during their stay in the city. It was not as nice as the Abbey of Holyrood, but offered much higher protection. All visitors can take a free guided tour around the palace, where you can see the Grand Palace was built in 1511 and the State Rooms where Queen Mary of Guise died in 1560 and his daughter Mary, Queen of Scots gave birth to James VI 1566.
