Barnard Castle is located above the River Tees in Teesdale, County Durham and was founded by the Normans, but was rebuilt in the 12th century by Bernard de Balliol, whom he had his castle name.The is divided into four sections , all the stone walls. The interior room is protected by a ditch dug in the rock, and in this church are the remains of the main palace buildings, including the round tower and Great Hall. Its previous tenants include John Balliol (King of Scotland), Richard Neville, Earl of Warwick and King Richard III. After the death of Richard III the castle fell into disrepair and in 1630 was sold to Sir Henry Vane who uses part of the stone as materials for the improvement of Raby Castle. Today the castle is managed by English Heritage. There are no structures of the castle, but you can use public toilets and car park to buy food and drinks in the city center. Alternatively, you can take a picnic. Dogs are welcome in the head.
